Frosthaven FAQ
The questions that come up mid-session, answered from the rulebook rather than from memory. Every answer below says which section it comes from and quotes the line it rests on, so you can settle the argument at the table by opening the book.
Board game rules. Where the digital version patches a number, the calculator pages say so.
Conditions and damage
Do conditions stack in Frosthaven?
No. A figure can only have one copy of each condition, so a second Poison or Wound changes nothing except the timer.
Conditions · p. 28–29
Does Shield stack in Frosthaven?
Yes. Shield from items and abilities add together, and the total reduces each attack against you. It does nothing against damage that is not an attack.
Shield · p. 25, 31
Does Retaliate go through Shield?
Yes. Retaliate damage is not an attack, so Shield does not reduce it.
Retaliate · p. 31
Who gets kill credit in Frosthaven?
The character who caused the damage, with four exceptions: Wound, Bane, another monster, and a negative hex the monster walked into itself.
Kill Credit · p. 45
Moving, targeting and summons
Can you push or pull allies in Frosthaven?
Only if the ability allows it. A plain Push or Pull is a negative effect and targets enemies; it can hit allies only when the card targets allies or “all figures”.
Targeting / Push and Pull · p. 23, 32
Can you move through enemies in Frosthaven?
No. Figures can pass through allies but not enemies, obstacles, objectives or walls. Push and pull follow the same rule.
Move / Push and Pull · p. 24, 32
Can you heal enemies in Frosthaven?
Not with a normal heal. Positive abilities target allies or yourself, and enemies are neither.
Targeting / Heal · p. 23, 29
Does Teleport count as a move in Frosthaven?
No. Teleport is not movement, so nothing on the path matters — but whatever is in the hex you land on still happens.
Teleport · p. 24
Where can a summon be placed in Frosthaven?
In a different empty hex next to the summoner, one summon per hex. If no adjacent empty hex is free, the summon is simply not placed.
Summon · p. 31
Items, loot and resources
Can you trade items between characters in Frosthaven?
No. Items cannot be transferred or traded between characters at all — not at the outpost, not between scenarios.
Item Usage · p. 36
How does looting work in Frosthaven?
Loot a token and you draw a loot card. Money and materials arrive at the end of the scenario; a random item goes into your pool immediately.
Loot · p. 37
What do H, L and M mean in Frosthaven?
The three material resources: H is Hide, L is Lumber, M is Metal.
Resource · p. 56
Campaign and outpost
Can you replay scenarios in Frosthaven?
Only in casual mode, and casual mode gives you nothing: no XP, no loot, no treasure, no checkmarks, no personal quest progress.
Casual Mode (Game Variants) · p. 69
What does morale do in Frosthaven?
Morale shifts Frosthaven's defense value, can be spent instead of resources to repair or build, and gates some event outcomes.
Campaign Sheet / Morale · p. 54, 61, 68
Settle it with the calculators
Half the arguments at a Frosthaven table are arithmetic. The enhancement cost calculator prices a sticker, the scenario level calculator gives you the level and its rewards, and the outpost attack calculator runs the town guard deck for you.
