How to use it
- Type the XP total from your character sheet.
- Read your current level and how far into it you are.
- Check the XP left before you level up during the next downtime.
The XP thresholds
Level 2 at 45 XP, level 3 at 95, level 4 at 150, level 5 at 210, level 6 at 275, level 7 at 345, level 8 at 420, level 9 at 500.
These are totals, not gaps. Sitting on 200 XP means level 4 with 50 XP banked towards level 5 — you do not need another 210 on top of that.
Your XP total does not reset when you level up, which is why the sheet tracks one running number.
How you get XP
Two places. Ability cards that print an XP value, and the bonus XP every character gets for finishing a scenario.
That bonus depends on the scenario level: 4 XP at level 0, then 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, up to 18 at scenario level 7. The scenario level calculator on this site shows the number next to the level.
When you actually level up
XP alone does not do it. Levelling is a downtime activity during the outpost phase, so you become level 5 the next time the party is back in Frosthaven, not mid-scenario.
If your XP meets the requirement for the next level, you have to level up during that downtime. You also pick a new ability card from your class at each level.
Questions
- How much XP is a level?
- The gaps grow: 45 for level 2, then 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 and 80. The totals are 45, 95, 150, 210, 275, 345, 420 and 500.
- Can I bank XP past level 9?
- No. Level 9 is the top of the class, so XP above 500 has nowhere to go. Gold and gear are the only things left to spend on that character.
- Does XP carry over to a new character?
- No. A new character starts at level 1 with 0 XP. The class you retired keeps its enhancements in the standard campaign, but the XP does not move across.
